Published by Gagosian in collaboration with the Estate of Brice Marden, the catalogue raisonné is organized chronologically and includes for each painting: a color reproduction (with a few exceptions), complete caption details, inscriptions, provenance, solo exhibitions, group exhibitions, literature, alternate titles, studio location, and explanatory notes. The notes employ the artist's own words about the painting whenever possible-often pulled from unpublished notes or interviews in the artist's archive-and avoid interpretation. In addition to a foreword by Larry Gagosian, an introduction and note to the reader by Tiffany Bell, and a detailed, illustrated chronology by Tiffany Bell and Anna Gray, two texts by Marden provide insightful bookends to his approach to painting.
